Dual enrollment lets a Mandarin student take a college course through FSCJ for both high school and college credit at the same time, at no cost to the family. Getting in requires clearing three separate bars at once: the right grade level, a qualifying GPA, and a qualifying test score in reading, writing, and (for some courses) math. All three must be met before the start of class, not just applied for.
Important notes before you start
- Eligibility requirements are determined by FSCJ and the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), not by Mandarin or Duval County Public Schools.
- A student must be fully eligible (correct grade level, GPA, test scores, and any prerequisite) before the start of class.
- Official score reports are required for ACT, SAT, PERT (the College Success printout), and CLT. Scores from FOCUS are not accepted.
- Scores are interchangeable: ACT, PERT, SAT, and CLT qualifying subject-area scores can be paired using any combination of tests (see the scenario tables below).
- A student must be tested in Reading, Writing, and Math the first time they take the PERT. See our PERT Practice Test page for a free practice test.
- When using PERT scores, a Math PERT attempt score must be submitted with ALL dual enrollment courses.
- When using a qualifying SAT Reading & Writing/Language, ACT Reading & English, or CLT Verbal Reasoning & Grammar/Writing score for Academic Dual Enrollment, the student must still submit a PERT Math attempt if they don't have a minimum math score for that same test.
- Students must retest Reading, Writing, and Math if their PERT, ACT, SAT, or CLT score is older than two years from the course start date, and must earn a new qualifying score.
- Students are limited to five test attempts per subject area to qualify, and may only test once per day.
- Students must take SLS1103 (Strategies for Success in College, Career, & Life) within their first two semesters of dual enrollment participation.
- Students must successfully complete English II before enrolling in any dual enrollment course other than SLS1103.
- Students must successfully complete Geometry and Algebra II before enrolling in MAT1033, MAC1105, MGF1130, MGF1131, or STA2023.
Academic Dual Enrollment: general requirements
- Non-Early College students must be listed as Grade 11 or 12. This goes by current grade level, not cohort entry year.
- Students must have a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 and maintain at least a 2.0 college GPA once enrolled.
- Students must have a minimum of four full high school credit hours, including English I, English II, and a math credit, to participate.
- Students must demonstrate readiness in reading and writing to participate in Academic Dual Enrollment at all.
- Students must demonstrate readiness in math when exceeding 12 college credit hours and/or enrolling in a math or chemistry/physics science course.
SLS1103 & SLS1931 eligibility by grade and GPA
SLS1103 (Strategies for Success in College, Career, & Life) and SLS1931 (Selected Topics in Student Life Skills) are the student-success courses most students take first. Eligibility depends on grade level, program type, and GPA:

Reading and English/Writing scores below determine eligibility for ENC1101 (English Composition) and other academic dual enrollment courses. Math scores determine placement into math courses:

Advanced math placement
A student who scores 135 or higher on the PERT Math can take the Advanced Math Section subtest (referral form available by emailing DualEnrollment@duvalschools.org). That subtest score determines placement into higher-level math:

Once a student is enrolling in a math or chemistry/physics course, or taking more than 12 college credit hours total, math readiness must also be demonstrated at a higher bar. To enroll in MAC1105 (College Algebra) specifically, a student needs a minimum math score of CLT 16, SAT 28, ACT 23, or PERT Math 123, and must have completed Geometry and Algebra II; the Digital SAT and CLT cannot be used for MAC1105 placement.

The CLT cannot be used for placement into MAC1105. A CLT Verbal Reading + Grammar/Writing combined score must be from the same test date. This table applies to the Digital SAT for test dates after November 29, 2016.
