The Florida Seal of Biliteracy Program recognizes a high school graduate who has attained a high level of competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages in addition to English.
How to Apply
- Complete the official application. Ask your world language teacher or counselor for this year's application link or QR code.
- Once you know which path you qualify for (see below), submit your evidence in Microsoft Teams: go to Teams, click Join or Create Team, and join the team for your path. Ask your counselor for the current join code for your path (A, B, or C).
Silver vs. Gold

The Three Paths
Path A: Language Courses
Attach a transcript in the Path A channel showing your grades in four high school courses of the same language (you may still be in your fourth year).

Your world language GPA is checked at application time, then verified again after the third quarter and at year's end by your counselor and the district office.
Path B: Passing Exam Scores
Attach your score report in the Path B channel. Silver requires a Silver Seal score or performance level (plus a standard diploma); Gold requires a Gold Seal score or performance level plus a level 4 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA FSA. Accepted exams:

A student who did not enroll in or complete world language courses can still earn up to four world language high school credits by reaching at least the minimum Silver Seal score or performance level on one of the exams above.
Path C: Portfolio
When an exam or courses aren't an option, submit a portfolio on Teams instead. Silver requires demonstrated proficiency at the Intermediate Mid level or higher (ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines 2012); Gold requires Advanced Low or higher, plus a level 4 or higher on the Grade 10 ELA FSA.
The portfolio has five sections, plus an honor agreement, all submitted electronically by March 8, 2027:
- Interpretive Listening: 100-150 word written summary, in the target language, of an authentic audio or video at least 2 minutes long (link required). Songs and music videos don't qualify.
- Interpretive Reading: 100-150 word written retelling, in the target language, of an authentic text (literature or a periodical article, appended). Music lyrics don't qualify.
- Interpersonal Communication: a 2-minute .mp3 recording of an extemporaneous conversation with another speaker of the language, on an assigned community-problem topic.
- Presentational Speaking: a 2-minute .mp3 recording of a prepared (not read) presentation on one of two assigned topics.
- Presentational Writing: a 5-paragraph essay in the target language, written without a dictionary, thesaurus, or other resources, on one of two assigned topics.
LastFirst_SectionName (for example, SmithJoanna_InterpersonalCommunication), and complete the honor agreement in the Portfolio section of Teams confirming the work is entirely your own.
