Khan Academy Test Prep

Khan Academy is a free, nonprofit learning site with an official practice partnership for the SAT. It doesn't have an official ACT course, but its free lessons still help build the underlying math, grammar, and reading skills the ACT covers, and we've included where to go for dedicated ACT practice too.

Setting up a free account

  • Go to khanacademy.org and select Sign up.
  • Choose I am a student, then sign up with a personal email, or with a Google or Apple account.
  • Enter a birthdate and grade level when asked.
  • For SAT prep specifically, link a College Board account to Khan Academy (see below) to unlock personalized practice based on real PSAT or SAT scores.

Khan Academy is completely free, with no ads and no paid tier required to access any test prep content.

Khan Academy's Digital SAT prep is built directly with the College Board, the organization that writes the SAT. It covers every skill on the test across three difficulty levels: Foundations, Medium, and Advanced.

  • Create a free College Board account at collegeboard.org if a student doesn't already have one (most students get one automatically when they take the PSAT at school).
  • Go to khanacademy.org/digital-sat and choose Link account to connect the College Board account.
  • If the student has PSAT or SAT scores on file, Khan Academy automatically builds a personalized practice plan targeting weak areas, no separate diagnostic quiz needed.
  • Without linked scores, a student can still start practicing immediately using the general skill-based lessons and full-length practice tests.

ACT: no official Khan Academy course

Khan Academy does not have an official ACT partnership or ACT-specific course. Its SAT content is built with College Board specifically for the SAT, and there is no equivalent arrangement with ACT, Inc.

That said, Khan Academy's general math, grammar, and reading lessons overlap heavily with what the ACT tests, so they're still useful for building skills, just not as a substitute for real ACT-format practice.
